Three Forms of Law for Three Realms on Earth
Have you ever considered everything on earth as governed in 3 realms? Probably not.
Someone had to invent the laws of physics for everything else to operate within those laws. Sort of the operating system before the software. Under and inside this orderly Realm of Laws that God invented, I see three general realms of governing.
1. Cause and effect 2. Instinct 3. Sovereign will (free will)
This is just my perspective. Let scripture being your final filter all of your life.
1. Non-Living Things: Cause and Effect
Atoms, elements, rocks and even the principles of physics, gravity, temperature, etc. are things ruled by cause and effect. That means predictable outcomes 100% of the time from specific stimulus.
2. Animals: Instinct
Each species has a different package of instincts. These are “programs” built on top of cause and effect. A dog can become very afraid or very mean if harshly mistreated. That's cause and effect. How that fear or viciousness will be expressed will be in canine instincts/programming.
We have all kinds of animals that seem to have their own programs we call instincts. If you own 3 dogs or 3 cats, you will know they have 3 different personalities, but cats don't wag their tail when they are happy and dogs don't hiss when they're angry.
God has added the fascinating realm of relationship, not only with pets, but among all living things. Even cells have relationships and communication. Nothing living lives in isolation.
3. Humans: Sovereignty (Free Will)
We have physical cause and effect; a certain fall will break bones. We have involuntary instincts like blinking our eye. We may wrongly identify as instinct, our subconscious which invisibly influences us far more than we realize. Like all life, we also relate and communicate. There is a third layer for humans.
You may have heard on the news, someone declare their nation's sovereignty. This is declaring that nation's right to self-govern and not be ruled by another country, or dictated to by W.H.O. because they are a "Sovereign Nation".
God made us as sovereign (self-ruling) beings in His image. We choose who we become spiritually in our character.
Animals can cause harm, but they cannot sin because they are ruled by cause and effect and instinct.
Unique Abilities
Humans are not only incomparably more intelligent (no one can read this except humans) but granted a very powerful ability to look at themselves, as if an outsider, and ponder their condition; what they like and don't like.
Even more incredible, we can exchange a natural reaction for what we consider a more beneficial response. We do this by will. We can overcome weakness, poverty, poor hygiene, ignorance, laziness, bad habits, and bad attitudes. Cause and effect can be overridden by our will. There is no such thing possible in the animal kingdom.
Conquering Cause and Effect
Many criminals come from bad families. If we are horribly mistreated as children, we are likely to be afraid or violent, just like the dog example. But unlike dogs, millions of people from adverse backgrounds have recognized their handicap and decided they do not want to accept the natural course of their life. Instead, some folks have determinedly changed their thinking, sought advice, imitated successful people, learned the power of forgiveness and reshaped their mindset.
We cannot change our beginning, but we affect our own destiny.
The Bible also says inner change is possible and necessary for a destiny-altering life for the better.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2
Unique Benefits to Free Will
There is a whole variety of empowering aspects to our God-given sovereignty including leadership, creativity, choosing courage over cowardice, choosing a better environment, changing our role in a relationship and more. A human can be curious if they could achieve something no human has done before. Such ambition does not exist in animals.
Free to Sin
Sadly, God can tell you, this ability can go dark as wonderful families can have children reject goodness and love and choose bad influence to influence their values. Outside influence or a heart that turns wrong can do this.
Judging Mankind
God allows us to do good or evil things. This is true freedom. We are not bound by our instinct. We may have the universal need to give and receive love but are not forced by God. Instead, God commands us to love. As Creator, He gives many commands.
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day. Deuteronomy 6:24
Choose Wisely
We have freedom to choose but every choice has a consequence. That is life, obviously. There are consequences for bad morality because our Maker is holy. He literally wants every single person to repent of doing wrong and turn toward practicing right. Why? For our own good.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
With the extra powers of forgiveness, a new found love that doesn't quit, and a relationship that comes with an arsenal to forge ahead. In this wonderful creation of nature to reveal God’s power of intelligence and order, God invites us to victory as our ally, even after our defeats.
I hope this helps you see your world. Have a better week, this week.
