Nature Narration audio
In May 2008 my wife, to whom I was married 23 years, died unexpectedly.
I thought I was a very positive Christian, yet I was more of a mess than I had ever been in my life. I just couldn’t talk myself out of being a sobbing, hopeless, broken man.
First of all, it proves we are spiritual beings. I had no broken bones, I was not bleeding anywhere, and nothing physically wrong with me, yet I never experienced such deep and prolonged pain in all my life. Our core is not physical, it is spiritual.
I told God I did not agree with His timing and if He had asked me or my wife, we would both have said no, not now. Yes, I actually said that to God, as if He should have asked permission.
I was not angry at God, just so broken and lost. Although I could go on for paragraphs and share many things I learned during those first 6 months, I would like to get to one point only today.
GOD’S TANGIBLE REALITY IN MY LIFE IS BECAUSE OF NATURE
Way back in 1973, while in college, I was confronted, like everyone with the overwhelming avalanche of evolution in all sciences. I reached the point, as a believer who already graduated from missionary school, that I could not say with certainty that evolution was false. I was willing to abandon Christianity if Genesis was a myth. I had to be willing to believe whatever was true. Jesus said “the truth will make you free” no exceptions.
NATURE - EVOLUTION, DIFFERENT MESSAGES
Studying both nature and evolution versus what I observed was the best I could do. Eventually, I discovered evolution and nature were NOT saying the same thing. Evolution was spreading rumors about what nature was saying.
I am amazed the educational world teaches evolution as science based on expert opinion without observable evidence. That is an oversimplification but let’s just say overall, I believe the scientific method more than scientists. God’s fingerprints on nature is as solid as gravity. It is all just too obvious.
In the early 1990’s, I began writing a newspaper column showing what we could see actually contradicted what we were supposed to believe about evolution. A simplistic approach that continually reinforced what I had concluded. I was celebrating nature without any evolution. Delightful.
Too many Christians think this is an academic thing and unimportant if you already believe the Bible. Yet, during this terrible crisis in my life in 2008, the concrete evidence of nature glorifying God genuinely carried me through. I was broken but the pit was not bottomless. There was at least a real God who cared. I felt quite hopeless about ever being happy again, but there was not a millisecond doubting God’s existence, His power, and His goodness.
I admit, it seems like that should have cheered me sooner, but this is my true history. Today, I am outrageously happy and hope to make that more possible for others.
NOTHING SILLY ABOUT EVOLUTION
Evolution is not just an educational theory. Evolution has moved millions from their faith convincing them Genesis is a lie. Declaring scientifically the origin of all life has no love or purpose. Declaring death a final absence from life, nothing more, evolution is not just silly, it is a worldwide power of darkness doing great work for Satan.
But I hope I can plant the seeds of simple observation in you the way it has been planted in me. I’m not asking you to believe me, I want to show you how to look at things. Make sure you listen to the Nature Narrations mp3 I always insert at the top of my devotionals. There is great joy in God’s creation without any noise from evolution. I want that for you, too.
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:20 NIV
