“Satisfied” by Myra Alibrando
Sense for an Insane World
As we watch our world descend into chaos, strife, lies, corruption and the pressure on families, marriages, and faith to abandon their values, I propose the Ten Commandments is a great foundation for any nation.
How could any nation of any religion be pro-lying, pro-murder, or pro-discontent?
While the first two commandments are indeed about God, it is a God who holds these values dear and therefore entitled to respect from all. We know God is more than a respectable God, He is creator and future judge of all humanity.
Someone Way Smarter than Us
By creating and engineering all of nature, the planets and galaxies with precision and laws that cannot be disobeyed, we know that moral laws for mankind, are as certain and have consequences as predictable as the laws of nature.
Exodus 20:3-17 Deuteronomy 5:6-21
Some teach it is impossible to obey these simple commandments but there is this verse:
Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. Deuteronomy 30:11
We are sinful but if God says it is not too difficult, what are we going to do with that scripture? At least, in faith, we should try. The new covenant is faith and one of the fruits is self-control.
We would truly be fools if we think in the New Testament choices have no consequences. God has always called us to better, wiser choices for our own benefit.
Certainly, beyond doubt, these 10 commandments reflect God’s values; the God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We are family and surely should act like family.
“Ten Laws” Lyrics
Decades ago, I wrote this song about the 10 commandments.
There are ten laws that God gave us and each one is for our good. We can do them if we try to because God said that we could.
The 1st is that we love Him more than anything
The 2nd is a “don’t you” Don't you make a thing that you will worship for God is a jealous God
The 3rd is for your lips. Don't use His name angry, joking, or in vain
The 4th law is no extra, the Lord wants us all to rest, To reflect on Him and think of how to live our lives the best
Do these laws lack reason? Would they hurt mankind?
The 5th is to honor and obey with courtesy the woman who bore you and the man from whom you are seed
The 6th is do not murder, do not kill unjustly
The 7th is not to ruin a family with adultery
Eight, you shall not take what isn't offered for free
Nine, don't you lie, don't you deceive, truth only speak
Ten, be content God has but lent everything we have
These laws are God’s own values and by Jesus all fulfilled. They are wisdom through the ages and through love they guide us still.
Aren’t you curious in your imagination what your country would look like if every person in power and every neighbor and relative obeyed these?
It's fun to remember the names of the seven dwarves or other trivia, but can we recite the 10 commandments and meditate on their importance? Try it.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matthew 5:17
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? James 2:14
God’s instruction is not to get us in trouble, but as always, to guide us like a compass, like a map.
And the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 6:24
It’s your week, make it worthwhile. I hope it’s great.
Dear Sam,
I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments on the importance of following the Ten Commandments as a foundation for a nation. It is through these laws that we can find guidance, wisdom, and a moral compass in a world that seems to be descending into chaos.
Your message has inspired me to take a closer look at my own life and how I can better align my actions with these commandments. I will strive to honor and obey those who have raised me, speak truth, and show love and respect to those around me.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insight in this article. Your words have truly resonated with me. 😊🙏
