“Hope Horizon” by Myra Alibrando
Curiosity is not Bad
There is an American saying "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater". It's strange and comical but means don't throw out what is good with the bad, don't throw away what is valuable accidentally while you are disposing what is worthless.
Christians give up many valuable things in order to avoid sin. Curiosity is one of those.
Curiosity, just like money, time, or power, is a neutral force made good or evil by its use. I have complained for years the utter loss of curiosity in so many adults who think their goal in life is to preserve and protect what they have - the status quo.
It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out. Proverbs 25:2
Solomon wrote that. He was curious to learn and accomplish
Solomon composed three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered a thousand and five. He spoke of trees, from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing in the wall, and he taught about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish. 1 Kings 4:32-33
Security Goals Could Endanger Your Growth
Security as a goal, typically banishes adventure or risk, both necessary for the possibility of major growth. That is why God allows great hardship to come in our life for the really big lessons. Tragedy and hardship is unwelcome but the unbearable pain humbles us to a willingness to really change.
I wish I could tell God I grow the most during times of comfort as an incentive to send me decades-long comfort without any problems. But the truth is, it is the “candy” of the world that threatens souls far more than wars and hardship.
This is where the unique quality of curiosity can change your scenery and norms.
The Violinist
We are all sinners and hopefully practicing righteousness, like a violin student playing wrong notes hurting everyone's ears. If that student keeps practicing, he should get better. With ambition, he might become a highly acclaimed skilled player.
The violin student certainly will not become a virtuoso because of his mom’s desire. He must be internally driven. He wants to hear himself play that piece with perfection and passion; the inspiring way it is in his imagination. You see, this is a type of curiosity. He really would love it if he could hear himself play it - beyond perfect. He's curious: "Can I play the song all the way through without making a mistake, with the exact emphasis on the notes that would evoke emotion and beauty?"
Great God Giving You a Great Calling
God has made us this fantastic earth and amazing anatomy in every living thing. His Word promises us the ability to become these amazing people who are overcomers capable of destroying evil yet with peace in our hearts on a journey with ever-brightening wisdom. Is that you? Does your never-ending growth spark a joy that is hard to contain?
Why is God telling you that is His will for you? Aren't you a little curious?
It requires great humility to call yourself a mighty oak when you are a little sprout in the forest thretened by a little rodent eating you. But God says hold your ground and keep growing, keep believing, keep aspiring. Every oak is a acorn that held its ground, became a sprout, became a sapling, then a young tree. These humble stages are required.
“Can I Really Do That?”
Sure, curiosity for the wrong things can lead to bad choices and the consequences, but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Whether struggling or living a blessed life enjoying comfort, are really curious to see how evolution is a lie, or curious to really become familiar with the old testament, or to see if you can make a difference in your little neighborhood, or what might happen if you beg God to be a better source of love and encouragement to your family?
... curiosity becomes a great cause of growth even without the need for adversity-triggered growth.
Wow. Growth from curiosity rather than tragedy. Is it possible?
You will never know unless you are curious enough to find out for yourself. Righteous curiosity.
Growth Fueled by Curiosity
When you were 3 years old, you were curious about everything and that is when you learned the most and had the fastest pace of mental growth. Now, you are smart enough to know curiosity needs to be guided by the right heart and wisdom, but curiosity within righteous boundaries has no limits to how much it can drive your growth.
I'm glad you don't want to be curious about trying heroin or pornography or the next 1000 YouTube shorts, or if you can get away with a lie . . . but don't throw away curiosity because of these wrong things. There are thousands of fantastic pursuits that are good and healthy and rewarding that you are missing for lack of curiosity.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
The kingdom belongs to those with childlike faith, could that include childlike curiosity?
Don’t make your goal success, make your goal to always learn from failure.
Break the mold of your status quo and no matter what your age, learn something new, do something new, be someone new.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2a
Sam,
I absolutely agree with everything you've said about the importance of curiosity in our growth and development as individuals. It's true that curiosity, when channeled in the right direction, can lead to incredible learning and personal transformation.
Your words have inspired me to embrace my curiosity and to seek out new experiences and knowledge, always with a heart guided by righteousness and wisdom. I want to be like a child, eager to learn and explore the world around me, constantly growing and evolving in my faith and understanding.
Thank you for sharing this powerful message. It has truly resonated with me and I am grateful for the reminder to never lose sight of the value of curiosity in my journey as a Christian. 🙏🌟
